Crossing the Finish Line: Highlights from Our Final 2024 Competition

Updated: 2 days ago

And just like that, we’ve come to the end of 2024 with our final competition—and for the first time ever, we opened it to the public!

The amazing participants who made our final 2024 competition unforgettable.

We were unsure about hosting this event but due to the limited resources we had. Nevertheless, the team decided to take this challenge and proceed with whatever we could manage, as it serves as a stepping stone for the many competitions planned in 2025. Thanks to everyone's involvement, the event went smooth. Not to mention, the weather was on our side too—thank you, weather! A Special shoutout goes to Coach Elena for leading the team and making the event a success.

Wong Kai Shun, a rising star in the U12 category, dominates the competition by winning both the 1200m racewalk and 1200m run.
A family of champions! Siblings Layla and Ayman dominate the U9 racewalk while their mom, Azeera, takes silver in the 1600m racewalk.

We had 62 athletes sign up for the Ultimate Race, which included racewalking and distance running. The energy on the track was incredible; it felt like a homecoming for runners of all ages and backgrounds. The Kawan spirit was alive as athletes caught up with old friends, cheered on their teammates, made new connections, and celebrated new personal bests.

Mr. Teoh Boon Lim walks his first race in 13 years, winning the veteran category and supporting his former student, Elena Goh.

The biggest highlight? We had the honour of witnessing Mr. Teoh Boon Lim, a former national racewalker and now a national coach at Sekolah Sukan Bukit Jalil, join the veteran racewalk event. His presence was a heartfelt gesture of support for his former student, Coach Elena, who is now our long-distance coach. It was inspiring to see them reunite on the track, with Mr. Teoh showing that his skills remain sharp even after retiring in 2011!

Masters on the move!

Another thing we didn’t expect? The masters category turned out to be the biggest hit, with active masters competitors making up a significant part of the events, something we didn't expect but truly appreciated. Special thanks to Mr. Goh Jing Jing, a very active athlete from the masters category, who also joined us. He sprinted his way through the 1600m run, leaving the audience in awe! Congratulations that he broke his own PB before the new year.

Mr. Goh Jing Jing, a well-known name in Malaysia’s masters category, breaks his PB in the 1600m run, leaving the crowd in awe with his remarkable run.

We received many kind words from participants and parents; your encouragement means the world to us. A special thank you to the Kawan parents for always supporting our events like they have always done—we just want to give them the biggest hug ever! We promise you this: we will have many more competitions for everyone. And the first one in 2025 is our relay event, "Race Against the Burn!" Limited slot only, sign up now!

Thanks again to everyone who participated, cheered, and made this event happen. Let’s do it even bigger next year!
